5 Free and Fabulous things to do with the kids in and around Dorset
Micro piggies!
#1 – Kingston Maurward Animal Park and Gardens. In Dorchester, this veterinary school has beautiful gardens which are open to the public. They also home a vast range of domestic animals such as micro pigs and Shetland ponies that you and the kids can pet, feed and adore all in the idyllic surroundings. Historic Gold Hill
#2 – Gold Hill Museum and Garden. This beautifully quaint museum at the top of Shaftesbury’s famous gold hill is a fantastically preserved piece of old England. Interesting for kids and adults alike you won’t get bored in the town of Shaftesbury. Once you’ve seen the museum and gardens why not take a stroll down Gold Hill and then race back up? Nature reserve dunes
#3 – Studland Beach. Beaches aren’t just for the summer! This lovely beach on the Dorset coast near the town of Swanage is the perfect place for a stroll in the winter and a swim in the summer. Check before going which parts of the beach are dog friendly and some beaches even have BBQ areas! Studland was the inspiration of Enid Blightons Noddy’s Toy Town. Bread the old fashioned way
#4 – The Town Mill in Lyme Regis. Find out how bread was made in the olden days. This fully functional water mill is still using the age old techniques first used in 1300 when it was built. Millers give a tour of the 3 floors of the stone built water mill to unfurl how the grains used in flour is milled. The mill also has a gallery, a cheese monger and a cafe. They have different events and workshops on almost every day of the year, so be sure to stay up-dated //townmill.dns-systems.net/          
English Tradition
#5 – Margret Green Animal Rescue Center. This animal rescue center in Wareham is the perfect place to take kids. They are given the opportunity to see how animals in care are treated and looked after before being re-homed with a loving family.
