Hi, I’m Cressida and in 2011 I set up Fun Science with the goal of making science accessible and interesting to primary aged children. I had worked within schools and had noticed that the primary curriculum was often uninspiring and many teachers didn’t have the time or resources to plan practical science experiments. I knew that TV programmes such as Brainiac were really popular with children and couldn’t see why science within schools was so boring in comparison.
I started by running science themed birthday parties for local children in Bath and then slowly grew the business to begin offering after school clubs, holiday clubs and in-school workshops. Over the next few years, my team and I fine-tuned and streamlined our offering and since then, Fun Science has worked with over 100,000 children across the country, launching rockets, making slime and mixing up lots and lots of potions! We now have 9 branches running across the UK and Isle of Man.
If you think you’d like to start something similar in your local area, I’d love to help you. I’m passionate about helping to make science accessible to all children and part of that is finding those special people to help reach children in areas where we don’t currently have branches.
